Unit 11

University Talk

We had a woman come in from Portsmouth university. She was talking about out UCAS statement, never to write the university you want to go to as the others will deny applications. The UCAS website doesn't have spell check so make sure you use word and check spelling before uploading.  Make sure your personal statement is for the course you want to do and now lie about things you like. She was telling us what we need to write into out statements and what not to write. We were told to write about what we like doing and just speak about ourselves. We were also told to make sure to have only 4000 words included into the page. She also told us about how student finance works. Also on how it affects people when they earn more money after they finish the graduation. If they earn more than 28k a year they will have to pay more of the loan off. But if you are getting paid less than 28k you won't be getting charged for your loan.

She also told us about how finance for living works.. So the more money your parents earn you will get less finance towards accommodation. This means if your parents earn more than 65k a year you will get the minimum student loan but if your parents/parent only earns 25k a year you will get the maximum being able to be given.

I personally feel that the talk which was given has helped me understand more about how uni works and what things are possible. I also learnt so much more about how the student finance works throughout universities. This has helped me lots and developed my understanding for what universities I need to look into and why looking into them helps more.

What career path i will be taking.
Apprenticeships.

The possible careers I want to get involved in, are creative media apprenticeships. These will be ones which allow me to use my creative side. I would like to be involved in apprenticeships which allows me to use my creative skills in a workplace. I already have a few ideas in which type of places I want to be doing my apprenticeships, this is a few major industries of media such as BBC,    Channel 4 and Vodafone. The reason why I had these 3 major companies in my mine is due to the fact they have a lot more experience in the media industry and I feel like I will be able to learn so much from companies like them. The links provided are all different types of apprenticeships I had chosen to have a look into because of the training I will be receiving. I know I need to make sure I get at least a merit and even push for a distinction to secure a place for the apprenticeship. Looking into the apprenticeships I choose I know what I need to do and how I will do it.
