A nonfiction story told through moving images and sound.
Detailed description

Sound clips
Interviews
Vox pop – means interviews which is done by many people
My favourite sub - genre is crime
There are many new crime documentaries coming into the world.
My favourite documentary was, Ted Bundy. This was because it
created a series of events which is based on a true story.
Conversations with a killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes
Task 2
Director is – Joe Berlinger
Release date - 2019
I would categorise this documentary into a section of crime.
This is because of what it is based on and what actually happened. This story
was based on a real situation.
Poetic mode – subjective, artistic expression
Uses images and songs to evoke a feeling
Preformative
The film maker being involved in the documentary.
An example is night and fog about a person who
survives the holocaust
Reflective mode
Breaks the 4th wall and acknowledging
the audience
E.G The movie called the Imposter
Expository mode
Observational mode
Participatory mode
Task 3
The imposter this was a short clip that we had saw in our
lesson. The genre of this documentary is thriller and crime. The different
types of documentary conventions are recreation and interviews. They had
recreated the whole documentary with the characters. They also used interviews,
they had interviewed the sister, mother and brother-in-law. These interviews so
what they were feeling as we wouldn’t know what they felt throughout that time.
The different modes used in this documentary is reflective mode as its break a
wall between the audience and the cast and allows the audience to acknowledge what’s
happening. The other mode is expository mode as the documentary relates to a
crime and a issue faced by someone.
Task 4
Case Study C
Bi-cultural identity
This documentary is informative. This documentary contains interviews.
The mode used are performative, observational and participatory. I choose to
say its performative as it includes the director of the documentary was
speaking in the beginning of the do documentary and introducing what it is
about. I also said it is participatory as it has people participating in the documentary
which as the people who was getting interviewed. The type of convention used is
interviews at the documentary is about people who have come from abroad and how
they have felt being in the UK and the issues they faced while studying here.
Sound quality as there is a hissing in the background. The use of different people and people from different backgrounds.
Documentary Analysis
The documentary I am reviewing is social animals. It was created in 2018 and is 1hr and 27mins long. The director of the documentary is Jonathan Ignatius green. I really enjoyed the starting part of the documentary when they had people being interviewed. I feel like this documentary s for people to understand the effect on what social media can do to you and it can affect your life in anyway. The unique selling points in this video is the way they have used different people from male to females and people from different backgrounds. The ways they have used different structures from a second person behind the camera asking questions and getting responses from people they asked. There are only 3 main people throughout the documentary and those were the three people who were always being interviewed. They have used the interviewees pictures in the documentary showing what they have done. They used lots of key items and buildings throughout the documentary. They have used people perspectives and what happens behind the scenes of what happens when it comes to taking pictures.
The documentary was structured as it kept going back and forth about people’s stories. They started with putting information and then carrying on from there. They did segments and then the second section was about something negative happening due to social media. There was one key purpose of the sections was the use of using different features and then explaining what happened to them. They included the back stories of how it happened and what happened after that. There was a narrator voice in the documentary talking about and also asking questions based on the person they are interviewing.
Task 8
Age: 16-25 – I choose this age range as I’m creating a documentary
on social media. I personally feel like the younger generations use social
media more and this documentary will give them more insight in what social
media actually is.
Gender – I am creating this documentary for both genders
male and females. This would work more as it will help both genders as I’m
creating it on a broad subject.
Ethnicity/Nationality – I’m creating it for British people
as it will be based on how British people are affected by it. This is because I
wouldn’t know how other people from other countries are affected by it. I’m creating
it for all religions as there isn’t only one religion which uses it.
Social Status – The subjects in this documentary is based on
students and young working people. This is because of the way younger people
use social media. I said this because younger people are using social media o
their daily life.
Interests – The target audience interests should be – social
media and negative use of social media.
Task 9
My documentary will be all about social media. This will
include lots of inadept questions. I will base this whole interview on people’s
impact on social media and what it does to them daily. I will use of interviews
and me asking questions which don’t allow me to get yes or no questions. I’m
trying to have people from all genders and background so I can get a range of
answers. This documentary will be different due to the fact of me basing the
whole documentary on peoples impacts on social media.
The modes which will be used is participatory
as I will be conducting interviews and I will be answering the questions.
The second mode I will be using is expository as I want to
tell them at the end of the interview a fact about social media.
Task 10
Question 1: What is your name and how old are you?
Question 2: Do you use social media?
Question 3: How has social media affected you in your life?
Question 4: Has anything negative happened to you due to
social media?
Question 5: How secure do you think social media is in today’s
world?
Question 6: Do you use social media for business or personal
use?
Question 7: What do you do on social media?
Question 8: Do you know anyone which has been affected by
the negatives on social media?
Question 9: Have you heard of cat-fishing on social media?
Business questions (Only if they said they use for business)
Question 7: How has social media affected your business?
Question 8: has your business become more well-known now than
it was before?
Question 9: How do you use social media for your business?
A mental health
The sub-genre of this advocacy. I choose to make this the dub
genre of this clip because of how this documentary is based true stories by
people which have been interviewed. He also uses auto biography in the
beginning of the video as he talks about how he has let people down.
The conventions used in this documentary are interviews. This
is because he wanted to get other people’s stories about mental health and if
it has affected them and how it did. I think he had decided to do that many
interviews because of how people would like to hear other people’s opinions
from both genders as well.
The modes used are performative as the person who has
created this video did a short segment of him talking about how he feels and telling
everyone that things will get better and not to give up. The use of voice overs
when he was in the car going to one of his friend’s campaign for mind.
Improvements such as there is camera blur in some parts of
the video and the lighting was off in some of the clips.
JUST SKATE
The director of this documentary used voice overs at the beginning
of the documentary. The use of facts used in this video will attract people
into knowing more about it and what actually skate boarding is, if they don’t know
what it is.
The sub-genre of this documentary is Historical. I decided to
choose this as the sub-genre because of the way the beginning was all about the
history of skateboarding. The other sub-genre is sport as it’s about a sport
which is skateboarding.
The conventions of this documentary are interviews from different
people which skateboard. The way the interviews were done had a background of a
skate park. The questions which were asked were not all the same and everyone
had different answers
The documentary modes used are observational and participatory. I choose
these two because of the way he had people participate in the video by interviews
of them and asking them about skateboarding.
I liked the way at the end of the video there was a credit scene for
all the people which were involved in this documentary.
Improvements are the audio quality when the interview was
conducted outside. Also, the video needs to be made on a tripod and not free
hand.

Typography
You are not allowed to use fancy fonts.
Use more than 3 different types of fonts throughout the
whole document.
Do not hyphenate texts when you get to the end of the page
and the text doesn’t fit. Just take the word to a new line.
Do not change the height of letters are it will vary every
time when you close the document and open up again.
Do not write number e.g. 15 write the number in letter such as:
fifteen.
Don’t use all caps throughout the text.
If trying to emphasis certain things in text do not use
upper case as a beginner. But just change your texts into bold which shows you
know what you are doing.
You are able to use any fonts you want. You don’t have to
avoid the default fonts you get as you decide what you want and like.
Try to keep your paragraphs a certain length and done exceed
the range which is the best. The best range for a paragraph is 45 to 75 lines.
Keep your text to the left never have your text cantered when
creating a work document. You can only have your text in the middle when you are
creating posters/invitations.
If wanting to go to the next line do not overuse space. Use the
enter key don’t hold down space causing you have to wait to get to the end and
then start a line like that. Just press enter and you will be sent to the next
line.
Letter space upper case, this increases readability you just
need to increase it by 10%.
Mix only contrast fonts. Don’t mix sans serif and serif text
with each other. You need to preserve contrast. When mixing familiar fonts it
creates your work to look sloppy and just make it look illegible.

Identity
The elements for an identity is colours which show what they
are about. Even the use of Capital letters in certain areas in the logo. All
details added into the logo should be the same throughout the use of all things
made. The use of the same logo throughout any advertisement created including
posters, websites and banners.
The purpose of an identity is to stand out from everyone
else. This means using colours which haven’t been used on similar logos. Using
things which haven’t been used in logos which are the same. The different
colours and making new slogans which will catch everyone’s eye not only a
certain type of group.
The 38 degrees identity has one background colour which is
orange. The text is all white. The 38 is the size of both lines of the text.
The use of capitals for the words DEGREES. The use of small texts and full
stops at the end of the words. E.g. people.
I personally feel this is to show power for what they are talking. Or it
could also be to say people power change, people with power should change. In a
small and sweet way.
They also have a logo when the letters are in a triangle
which is slanted. This may be because they are trying to put their name into a
picture so they decided to put it into a triangle and then put it on a 38 degrees
angle.
They used different identities when creating this logo. They
had the usage of an orange background which has been used throughout all their
logos. They also used the white text in the letters. This is because that the
white can stick out on the orange background. They used all the same codes and
conventions in all logos with the 38 being the size of both lines and the use
of capitals for the DEGREES.
This shows the people who own/run this company want their
logo to stand out and not change every time they have a new idea. This is a positive
thing for a company as they want to always be known in the world and not have
to change their logo and lose all the people who have followed them.
Constructivists
Constructivists began in 1913 by Vladimir Tatlin. The
movement was in favour as a practice for social purposes. Constructivism had a great effect on
modern art movements of the 20th century, including major trends
such as Bauhaus and de Stijl movements. Its influence was widespread, with
major effect on graphic design, film and music.

The way this was created shows detail in the simplest form.
The use of a woman which is shouting. Than putting a word on an angle going
from her mouth. The use of skills such as text going from small too big. They
only have used 3 different colours in the work excluding the woman’s picture.
The primary colours used is red and black. The use of white is a colour for the
border of the primary colours.
The design of this picture is detailed and has a lot of
shapes as a background. They also have a woman’s body but the way they used the
body is that they were cut into different sections and placed in different
areas of the picture. I like the way they have used their graphic design skills
to make it look like your viewing the picture lying down and that’s what you
see. The use of tall building as well creates a scenic view as it shows the
skills of the graphic designers. The way they have used different parts of a
body on a building make me confused on why they used a body of someone and what
they are trying to show/describe.
Surrealism
Surrealism is a cultural movement that
started in 1917, it is known for their visual artworks and writings.
Surrealists explored the darker, subconscious side of human nature through art.
Surrealist is a highly used technique to entice us in.
This work would be eye catching. As the use of someone’s
head is connected to a barcode of an item which isn’t shown. The use of 2 different colours excluding the
background makes the picture pop out more. The artist used a red colour to
outline the colour of the face which is the brightest colour which is there.
Than using the colour black to resemble a real barcode. I personally like the
way this design was created as I have never seen a design like this.
This was created to show the emotions of a graphic designer. I found this out by looking at what it says on top of the lip. The use of emotional graphic designer made me think that it was about a part of their emotional life when they created this. The things I like about this is the way the text has been used and wrapped on top of the lips of a woman. I feel like the program used for this image was very good quality, I say this as I personally think that creating something like this would be very hard to make sure it looks right and also has the right curve. I don’t have any negatives on this image created as I really liked this. This picture would be eye catching for people because of the use of bright red lipstick as the first point of sight than the smaller text causing people to want to know what it says.
Tate. (2019). Surrealism – Art Term | Tate.
They have used one type of lettering throughout the whole
poster. They have also used a range of colours this would be more eye catching
for people looking at the poster. They haven’t used simple text they have used
bright colours. These colours such as blue and red. They have also used big
text for the titles and they used small text for the little information.
On the second poster they have overlapped the texts on top
of each other. They have overlapped the same word over and over each other.
This is because of the effect it has so that people try figure out what it was
meant to say at the bottom. They have used one text throughout all their
posters. They have kept the same codes and conventions through all of their
work. They have used all types of sizes for their text going from small too
big. They also hyphenated a word which is reaction. They done RE- in bold text
on top of the overlapping words of action.

Brandalism
Brandalism was created in the United Kingdom and from there
has become a worldwide movement. This movement was created in July 2012.
This organisation go around in the nights and even day time
and change banners places around London and the world. This banner is showing what actually happens in
prison or even in police custody. This poster they have created is given stats
out about what the truth is. I personally feel like this group of people only
post thinks which can be proven and have a solid proof of it. I personally feel
like the people who create things like this want to show the dark truth of
things which is real.
Tibor Kalman
Tibor Kalman died at the age of 50. H was born in July 6th
1949 and passed away on 2nd may 1999. He was an American graphic designer from a
Hungarian background. From 1981 till his death he was married to an illustrator
called Maria Kalman.
My personal opinion on his work is that it is about showing
that everyone is equal. He did this by

In today's lesson we worked in a group of 3 and were watching 9 videos. We were watching different types of videos. We had lots of things we has to say it had and what it didn't. We had to say what the main theme of the video was and also what target audience the video had. I will be uploading a picture of all the boxes i wrote in and what the videos will be about.
Brainstorming issues
Marketing and Promotional mix
A marketing plan is made up of seven key elements. The first
4 main elements is product, Place, price and promotion. The remaining 3 are people, processes and
physical evidence. There is also an 8th p which is productivity and
quality.
Advertising is people who create advertisements for
different places and businesses.
Personal selling is when
businesses use people to sell the product after meeting face to face. E.G is
people who sell cars.
